Hypothetically, let's say I went to a university in the Montreal area...
What would have happened? Well I think I would have kept spiraling in the same endless cycle that my life was in for the past 5 years or so. I don't think things would have turned around like they have up to this point.
Let's face it, if you have lived in Montreal for a long time, you're well established and you have friends already. So if you enter a new university, even though you meet new people there, those people will still hang with the same old friends they have had for a long time. So even if you meet new people, it's very difficult to become good friends with people in Montreal. I have seen this by the fact that some of my friends in Montreal don't seem to meet as many new people as me, it's an impression that I'd like to know if it's really true.
So with that thought in mind, I don't think I would have met the same kind of people I met here in Sherbrooke. These friendships were integral to my transformation, they saw potential in me.
Going to Sherbrooke was good in that sense, it allowed me to put some distance between my friends in Montreal and myself. Neediness was one of my major shortcomings and I'm glad to say that it's long gone. What's left is a sense of great freedom.
And for those who believe a journal is to chronical one's life, last night I went out with some friends from work. Unfortunately, Marilou's camera wasn't working so she's promised to take some pictures at work next week. We went to a sort of bar and drank some beer and afterwards some of us went to a party. That was pretty awesome, though I didn't know anyone apart from Pascal, it didn't take long for me to meet a few new people. This weekend I'll be completing my internship report and resting a bit too.
